Enhanced XMM-Newton Spectral-fit Database

Summary

The aim of this project is to:

  1. expand our XMMFITCAT project to the newly available 3XMM sources;
  2. derive photometric sources for all X-ray extragalactic sources with reliable optical counterparts in the SDSS or Pan-STARRS catalogues (XMMPZCAT);
  3. re-run the X-ray spectral fits taking into account the photometric redshift information (XMMFITCAT-Z).

Thanks to this project we can untap the full potential of XMMFITCAT: using the distance information (redshifts) we can derive rest-frame column densities, rest-frame energies of emission and absorption features, temperature of emitting plasma and luminosities.

This project is funded by the ESA-PRODEX program and consists of the collaboration between the X-ray Astronomy and Cosmology group group at the Institute for Astronomy, Astrophysics, Space Applications, and Remote Sensing (IAASARS) at the National Observatory of Athens (NOA), the X-ray and Observational Astronomy Group (XROA) at the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Leicester, the Galaxies and AGNs group at the Instituto de Física de Cantabria, the Galaxies, High Energy and Cosmology (GAHEC) department at the Institut de Recherche en Astrophysique et Planétologie (IRAP), the Department of Astronomy at the University of Geneva, and the XMM-Newton Science Survey Centre (SSC).
